20 years ago, Dead Rising showed a different path for open worlds, and more games should pinch its ideas

Photojournalist Frank West is heli-dropped into the Willamette Parkview mall, following a tip-off that there’s something sinister going down in the sleepy Colorado town. Impressively undeterred by the sight of people eating each other by a school bus during his fly-by, he instructs his pilot to drop him off on the mall roof and return for him in exactly three days.

It's taken a bizarrely long time, but Nintendo is finally adding the summeriest game ever made to Nintendo Switch Online, with Super Mario Sunshine joining the Switch 2's GameCube library next month. What It's Like to Drive Slate's Bargain-Priced EV Pickup

We haven't met a single person who has leapt for joy over the fact that the average new-car transaction price is hovering around the $50,000 mark. We headed to Rhode Island to take a brief spin in a prototype and see if Slate's got the sauce ahead of its fourth-quarter debut.

How Artificial Intelligence Discovered A New Way To Detect Patients At Risk Of Cardiac Death

I was excited to learn about a new use of artificial intelligence to make a potentially significant breakthrough in detecting patients at risk of sudden cardiac death.

Sudden cardiac death (SCD) is a serious problem, responsible for 10-15% of deaths globally and resulting in over 300,000 fatalities in the US every year. One current tool for helping prevent these deaths is detecting patients at high risk for SCD and surgically placing a device into their chest called an implantable cardioverter‐defibrillator (ICD). This can help “shock” the heart if it suddenly stops and keep them alive long enough to get to the emergency room.

Strange gamma rays could reveal how stars forge heavy elements

Researchers led by scientists at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams, or FRIB, have identified the source of a puzzling abundance of low-energy gamma rays released by the zinc-70 nucleus. Their results show that magnetic transitions occurring inside the nucleus produce the unexpected signal.
