OpenAI unveiled its newest family of models on Thursday, introducing a set of heavyweight programs into an increasingly crowded field of AI offerings.

GPT-5.6 comes in three variants: Sol (considered its workhorse), Terra (a more intermediate option), and Luna (its budget-friendly option). These models expand what users can do across a variety of fields — with the company promising powerful capabilities in enterprise work, coding, and even scientific research.

About a month ago I sat down with Dar Sleeper, the head of product design at 1X, and he showed me video of the company’s new humanoid robot hands that was basically mind-blowing: fast, precise motion that I hadn’t seen anywhere else. Brown University chemists have provided direct evidence that upends the textbook explanation of how triple chemical bonds work in heavy elements. In a study published in Science, the researchers show evidence that when atomic nuclei are sufficiently heavy, the principles described in Einstein's theory of relativity change the structure of triple bonds—blurring the lines between the two separate types of bonds involved in textbook triple bonding.
