The boss of Bethesda has told staff the company must now focus on its “strongest franchises” amid sweeping layoffs across Xbox.

Today, Microsoft announced 3,200 staff are set to lose their jobs at Xbox across the current financial year, with 1,600 of those layoffs happening today, July 6. In an email sent to staff, Xbox CEO Asha Sharma called it the most “significant” restructure in Xbox history, insisting Microsoft’s gaming business “is not healthy.” Overall, Xbox is losing about one-fifth of its staff as part of Sharma's push for growth.

Microsoft said Monday that it has eliminated about 4,800 roles, or 2.1% of its global workforce, adding to the string of AI-related layoffs hitting the tech world. The company said the roles being cut are “not being replaced by AI,” but acknowledged that “AI is changing how work gets done” and automating many everyday tasks.

A mortar round reportedly hit a Delta Air Lines flight during landing at Chicago Midway International Airport over the weekend. The good news is, there are no fatalities to report because it was "just" a 4th of July firework, not a weapon of war, NBC Chicago reports. The pilots were also able to land the plane without any issues, but the Federal Aviation Administration still plans to investigate the incident. You know, because you really aren't supposed to shoot fireworks at airplanes. The FAA really doesn't like it when you do that.

Alfa Romeo Giulia EV (Expected: 2028)

Alfa Romeo has confirmed the gas-powered Giulia (seen above) will be revamped in the coming years with an electric powertrain. We expect the base version will make around 350 horsepower, while the Veloce will produce closer to 800 horsepower. The top-of-the-line Giulia will continue to carry the historic Quadrifoglio name and should make upward of 1000 horsepower. The new Giulia will be produced on the Stellantis Group's STLA Large platform, with 800-volt, ultra-rapid charging and a range of up to 500 miles.
