Overview

After sunsetting its ID.4 electric crossover after the 2026 model year, Volkswagen is gearing up for a sophomore performance with a similarly sized SUV, but this time they’re trying out a new name: ID. Tiguan. The moniker makes sense given the popularity of its gas-powered Tiguan SUV, but in the camouflaged photos provided as a teaser ahead of the ID. Tiguan’s reveal, we see more ID.4 than Tiguan.

No matter. After all, what’s in a name? VW hasn’t released much information yet about the new model other than to confirm its name and show some photos. We expect to see single- and dual-motor powertrains on offer, and longer driving range estimates compared to the outgoing ID.4.

Expert Tip: There are still quite a few new ID.4s sitting on dealer lots nationwide, so if you’re looking for a deal or can’t defer your purchase until the ID. Tiguan arrives, now might be the best time to strike.

The ID. Tiguan is a brand-new model for the Volkswagen lineup, and we expect to see it officially debut in 2027 as a 2028 model.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

Volkswagen hasn’t released pricing information yet, but we expect the ID. Tiguan to be offered in several trims with a starting price of less than $50,000. Single- and dual-motor powertrains are both likely, and we may see short- and long-range battery packs as well. Whether it's a warmed-over ID.4 or a completely new vehicle is at this point unknown.
