The First Post-Launch ‘Escape From Tarkov’ Wipe Arrives This Week

Escape From Tarkov is about to get its first wipe since launching late last year, but for long-time fans this is not the wipe you will be expecting, as you’ll need to create a new character if you want to start from scratch.

The 1.1.0.0 update for Escape From Tarkov is due to arrive in the next week, with a firm date yet to be announced. However, it will not be a typical wipe patch that fans are used to, and instead the new season system will be introduced that replaces the typical wipes.

Instead of everyone’s progress being wiped when the update arrives, those who wish to experience the wipe will need to create a new character in the Kord Breach system. This system essentially creates new seasons in Tarkov, and you can add positive and negative buffs to your new character for a unique experience.

If you do create a new character then you’ll obviously start from nothing, but players have the option to simply keep playing on their main character they have used so far and continue their progress. For players who don’t have the time to experience everything Tarkov has to offer in the six months that a wipe allows, this is a great upgrade that will finally allow a lot of players to experience the end game content.

But it does also remove the excitement of a new wipe where everyone starts from nothing and those magical first few days where finding even the most basic loot feels like an achievement. I’m hopeful that still exists in some form with the Kord Breach system, but it remains to be seen.

The next Tarkov wipe is confirmed to arrive this month, unless there are any last minute delays, but no official release date has been announced. Given the month ends in just a few days, that means the 1.1.0.0 patch should arrive this week, with July 30 seeming like the most likely date given that many patches arrive on Thursdays.

The next Escape From Tarkov update will not only bring the Kord Breach system and first wipe, but also some other changes such as a reworked task system, and specifically how you can obtain the Kappa container. There will also be some new weapons, changes to hideout progression and a ton of quality of life improvements. The Battlestate Games team also likes to include a few surprises here and there with major patches, so when it arrives you’ll want to experiment in Tarkov to see what is new.
